Ooty is the Capital of The Nilgiris District,situated at an altitude of around 2200 Meters above MSL. It is proudly called as the “ Queen of Hill Stations”.

The Nilgiris District has been blessed with natural resources such as thick shola forests, water sheds, wild life, flora and fauna, pollution- free atmosphere, salubrious climate, fertile agricultural and plantation lands, widespread literacy, communal harmony, cosmopolitan gentry, etc.

The growing economy of the district has been measured by its involvement in commercial horticultural crops such as Ooty Carrot, Ooty Potato, Beans, Cabbages, Mushrooms, etc., in the Vegetable sector, exotic Fruits such as Pears,Peaches, Plums, Passion fruits, Oranges, Mangostein, Persimon, Strawberries, etc., and Lilium, Carnation, Gerbera, Alstromeria, etc., in the hi-tech floriculture sector.

Its economy is also measured by its other major involvements in plantation crops(Tea, Coffee,Pepper,Cardamom,etc,.) and tourism(Eco - Tourism) since many decades.
